XXX
school celebrates Harmony Day 2010
(Hundreds/dozens) of school children will come together in XXX to
celebrate Harmony Day 2010, Principal of XXX school, Mr/Ms XXX said today.
“Harmony Day on
March 21 is a chance to show that everyone belongs in our community. This is an
opportunity for students to learn what cultural diversity means and to nurture
that understanding,” Mr/Mrs XXX.
“Through Harmony Day students learn what cultural diversity means
and that Australia’s multicultural nature is part of what makes this country a
unique and wonderful place to live in.”
“The Harmony Day 2010 theme is Express Yourself,
which is a chance for everyone to show Australia’s linguistic, ethnic and
religious diversity in their own way.”
Mr/Ms XXX said the students would be participating in a range of
activities including XXX (fetes, plays, festivals,
art/craft workshops, musical performances and sporting events) to express pride
in Australia’s cultural diversity.
“One of the best aspects of Harmony Day is that our school
community decides how best to express our feelings about cultural diversity in
our area.”
“Nationwide, each day about 100 community groups, businesses,
schools, government agencies, churches and councils are registering events, with
thousands to take place by March 21.”
Harmony Day is part of the
Diverse Australia Program, which helps local communities to
address cultural, racial and religious intolerance and works with different
levels of government and community organisations to empower grassroots action.
Harmony Day is now in its 11th year
“I would encourage all students and the broader school community
to celebrate Harmony Day,” Mr/Mrs XXX said.
